December Solstice Dinner & Potluck at the Base

Saturday, December 21st 2013, 8PM
The Base
1302 Myrtle Avenue, NY 11221
$3 Suggested Donation

Join us Saturday at the Base for a winter solstice communal dinner and potluck. We’ll cook a simple vegan meal, but encourage others to bring some foodstuffs as well: fruits, vegetables to cook or eat raw, breads and cheeses, wines and juices, sweets—-whatever. We ask for a small $3 suggested donation to help cover the costs of the dinner.

–to share some moments together, outside of those spaces where we find ourselves instrumentalizing, professionalizing, and rationalizing our time, relations, decisions, and lives
–to eat, to talk, to find each other, to directly counter the social fragmentation, individualism, and loneliness we see everywhere where we look
–to move towards collectively sustaining ourselves outside of our individual relations with the marketplace and state; to achieve greater material autonomy collectively

This means initiating and following-through with a set of practices and relations; being consistent and reliable; establishing a strong foundation for a new form of life. This is part of a strategy to resist to what our lives will become if we don’t get organized.

We want a politics that takes seriously our very reproduction as a basis for self-organization. A politics which recognizes that to organize collectively around our needs with friends, comrades, lovers, roommates, neighbors, co-workers and family members will become the basis for our communes. Our ability to overcome the degradations brought on by the current social, political, economic, and environmental crises relies both on our capacity for solidarity, and our willingness to get organized.
